Austin G. Anderson is the Principal and Shareholder of Austin Anderson Consulting and Past-President of the Network of Leading Law Firms. He attended Itasca Junior College in Coleraine with the Class of 1950. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota and his Juris Doctor from the University of Minnesota Law School. For 20 years he served as the Director of the Institute on Law Firm Management and the Institute of Continuing Legal Education at the University of Michigan Law School in Ann Arbor, Mich. |

His practice management experience was gained while practicing with a four lawyer law firm and while serving as the Administrative Partner of a major Minneapolis law firm prior to joining the University of Michigan Law School. His consulting practice and teaching efforts include succession planning, strategic planning; financial, practice group and general firm management; mergers and acquisitions; marketing; lawyer development including coaching; succession planning/transitioning; and counseling lawyers and others with significant firm management responsibilities. He is active on the lecture trail, teaching lawyers and other members of the legal service team how to manage, plan and market their practices. Admitted to practice in Michigan, Minnesota and Illinois, he is a member of the bar associations in those states, the American Bar Association and the International Bar Association. He is a member of the College of Law Practice Management and is past Chair of the American Bar Association’s and State Bar of Michigan’s Law Practice Management Sections. He served as a Class Representative for the University of Minnesota Law School for 10 years. Austin is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and American Bar Association Foundations. He is Chair of the Michigan Fellows of the ABF. He is a member the ABA Senior Lawyer, General Practice and Solo and Small Law Firm and Law Practice Management Sections. He is the past Chair of the Economics of Tort and Insurance Practice Committee of the ABA Torts and Insurance Practice Section(TIPS). He currently serves as the Special Advisor to The Standing Committee on Continuing Legal Education, the American Bar Association. As an active writer, in addition to 60 articles on law practice management, he has co-authored The Effective Associate Training and Development Program, Second Edition (2006), Associate Retention: Keeping Our Best and Brightest (June, 2002), and Improving Firm Performance, Profitability and Partners: The Effective Associate Training Program, (1999), each for the American Bar Association Center for Continuing Legal Education. He has also served as contributing editor of Merriam-Webster’s Legal Secretaries Handbook (1981) and as consulting editor of the revised edition (1996). He was co-editor of the Lawyer’s Handbook, Third Edition (1992), published by the Institute of Continuing Legal Education and the American Bar Association. He is author of Marketing Your Practice: A Practical Guide to Client Development (1986) and A Plan for
Lawyer Development (1986), both published by the American Bar Association. He is recognized in Who’s Who in the Midwest, Who’s Who in American Education,
