From the ICC Alumni Association President

Tom Newman and family
The Newman Family, l-r, Erik, Marilyn, Jayson, Tom and Ryan

Welcome to the ICC Alumni Association website. I hope you find the site useful. As president of the ICC Alumni Association, I was asked what ICC meant to me. I thought hard on this and kept coming up with the word "opportunity". Because of ICC, it opened the door to my future career. From ICC, I went to the University of Minnesota and earned my Electrical Engineering degree. I am currently working on my 40th year as a practicing professional engineer.

My spouse, Marilyn (Kangas) '71, also attended and graduated from ICC. She then went to Bemidji State University and earned her elementary education degree. ICC gave her the opportunity for her life-time career.

Marilyn and I have three sons; Erik, Jayson and Ryan. All three have graduated from Itasca and now have the opportunity to pursue their careers; Erik in Electrical Engineering, Jayson in Civil Engineering and Ryan in Natural Resource Management.

Marilyn and I are the first generation of our respective families to get a college degree. ICC was a big part in making this happen; our opportunity was there at Itasca. The affordability was also a big part of this; excellent teachers were another part. I felt I was well prepared at ICC to continue my education.

I hope your education at ICC gave you the opportunity and the good memories to pursue your career. If you are not a member of the ICC Alumni Association consider joining us. This will help give others the opportunity that my family and I all had.

Sincerely,

Tom Newman
