2009 Annual Scholarship Fund Drive

Fall, 2009 

Greetings from Itasca,  

For the first time this past spring, my mother and friend established a scholarship which was awarded to four Itasca students. The students sent her thank you notes and pictures and my mother was brought to tears by their overwhelming appreciation.  "I feel so good about helping someone and knowing that I can make a difference in their lives," she said.  

College costs continue to rise and mixed with the reduction in appropriation from the state legislature and the economic slowdown, the Itasca Community College Foundation plays an even greater role in the lives of our students. Itasca continues to lead the state in the amount of gift aid given to students as compared to the amount of loans.  This is a great testament to the outstanding alumni, donors and friends we have across the nation.  We are thankful that Itasca is important to you and ask you to consider giving back now to deserving students by donating to the Annual Scholarship Fund. Since its inception, the Annual Scholarship Fund has helped hundreds of students go to college and finish with little or no debt. Your gift is appreciated and recognized by students and the entire college community. 

The 2009 fall semester has begun and we are looking at record enrollments across all departments including applied psychology, class act-education, early childhood education, nursing, natural resources and the backbone of the college, liberal arts. The college is providing opportunities for many dislocated workers and has started a new power generation program (with capacity enrollment) as well as a new pulp & paper program section. Finally, the engineering program was just recognized in U.S. News and World Report college ranking issue (August 19, 2009) under Best Colleges – Different Paths to a College Degree.   

Whether you are an alumnus who lives out of state or an Itasca County donor and friend, please know you are always welcome here on campus. Feel free to stop by my office and/or the alumni office – we would enjoy the opportunity to update you on fellow alumni and exciting programs.
